How to Draw Dinosaurs

A step by step guide for kids and kids at heart

Drawing dinosaurs can be easy! Anyone can draw one by using basic shapes. Here is a beginner’s guide to drawing two of the most popular dinosaurs, the Stegosaurus and Brontosaurus.

How to draw a Stegosaurus

The Stegosaurus is one of the most recognisable dinosaurs. It had distinctive bony plates along its back and a spiked tail.

  1. Start by drawing an oval for the head.
  2. Add two dots for the eyes.
  3. Add a smile on its face.
  4. Below and just a bit to the side of the head, draw a big semi-circle with the curved side. This will be the body.
  5. To draw a neck, draw two parallel curved lines to connect the body to the head.
  6. Draw a big curvy tail.
  7. Draw four rectangles for the legs.
  8. Draw small half-circles on the bottom of the legs to make the toes.
  9. Draw diamonds on the back.
  10. Draw narrow triangles near the tip of the tail to add some spikes.

How to draw a Brontosaurus

The Brontosaurus is a big dinosaur with a long neck and tail.

  1. Start by drawing an oval for the head.
  2. Add two dots for the eyes.
  3. Add a smile on its face.
  4. Starting from the back of the head, draw a long neck.
  5. On the base of the neck, draw a bigger oval. This will be the body.
  6. Draw four rectangles for the legs.
  7. Draw small half-circles on the bottom of the legs to make toes.
  8. Add a very long tail.

Don’t worry if your drawings don’t look perfect. Be sure to practice more and you’ll be ready to roar!
